The zodiac (meaning "circle of animals" from Greek) is believed to have developed in ancient Egypt and later adopted by the Babylonians. Early astrologers knew it took twelve lunar cycles for the sun to return to its original position, after the earth made one revolution around it. They then identified twelve constellations that they linked to the progression of the seasons and assigned them names of certain animals or people.
        The earth's daily rotation, as well as its year-long travel around the sun, was believed to relate to one's condition in relationships, finances, travel, and personal characteristics.
